I just watched the video clips and read your Blog entries! What a nightmare. When I worked for LAUSD I thought I had problems---I could barely cope, but I always got a paycheck. I was so stressed out working for them that I don't even know if I was shorted because their paychecks at the time were impossible to read!!! Dear Ms. Jill Iger:As a former full time secondary teacher and current substitute teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District, I directly witnessed and continue to witness the dispiriting morale in schools caused by the LAUSD/ Deloitte Consulting payroll problem. Several days ago, I saw you in local news broadcast through UTLA’s website. I see the “payroll snafu” as an opportunity to analyze systemic obstacles to learning in LAUSD, and I would like to do so through a documentary. My name is Jered Cassetta, and I am looking for a few teachers whose experiences epitomize the hardships teachers are forced to endure because of this payroll problem. After viewing the TV news segment, and this blog (I hope you do not mind me contacting you through these means), you are a great resource. Would you like to participate in this? Admittedly, I am an independent documentary filmmaker attempting to break into the business, and have a production team of…myself. Realistically, the prospects of this story—not just yours but the wider scope of these obstacles of which I speak—reaching distribution are slim to none, and the planning of this documentary is at the conceptual stage. Still, as the troubles you are handling is time sensitive, I must be prudent and prompt seeking out and finding potential role players like yourself.
